I had my heart set on a Parures de Maharajas scarf when I first saw them in November last year. I will never be able to afford an actual necklace dripping with excessive diamonds and rubies and emeralds and sapphires. But this scarf is a great substitute in my opinion.

Well, why didn't I get the scarf last year? That's because my mother-in-law was shopping with me at the time. Although my in-laws own their own business and are financially comfortable, they are also very conservative with their spending. They have no problem if money was spent on things that directly affected them and us, such as higher education (enriching our brains and investing in future careers), the best house one can buy (shelter from the elements as well providing a quality of life), or eating well (preserving health). However, they don't buy luxury designer things. In fact, my MIL's most expensive purse is a Coach purse, and I actually bought that purse for her.

So, I did not want to get the Hermes scarf in front of my MIL. I am fortunate I have a great relationship with her, and she wouldn't openly disapprove of me if I did buy it (although she may be a little concerned I'm flighty with money). But I wanted to respect her values. Therefore, back then, I regretfully returned the scarf back to the nice salesperson.

My husband did take notice that I kept looking at the scarf longingly, even after we prepared to leave the store. So, for Valentine's Day this year, he told me he would buy the scarf for me. All we needed to do was go to San Francisco and check out the colorways.

I originally wanted to get the one with the white background and the orange jewels. However, I changed course once I saw the light blue one with the purple jewels. Since I don't have anything purple in my Hermes collection, it will be a nice addition.

This scarf is no longer available on the Hermes website. One of these days, I'll get more close-up shots of the details of the scarf.
