Item: Skirt
From: Anthropolgie
Price: $29.95 plus tax (originally $128.00)
When this skirt first came out, I remember thinking I needed to put it in my wishlist for when it went on sale. There were certain things that I found striking about the skirt. The crisp white A-line shape that slightly poofed but by no means emphasized my hips. The side pockets that were deep enough to be useful rather than just ornamental. The modernist black and white print that slightly resembled Jackson Pollock swirls. The added texture of bright red and yellow woolly yarn-like tufts that dotted the bottom landscape of the skirt.
Then, I don't know, life kind of caught up with me. By the time I remembered to check it again online, the price had long dropped down twice and sold out.
So I was delighted when I went to Anthropologie to use my birthday coupon and found one hanging on the sales rack. The only problem, the size tag indicated it was much much smaller than any size of clothing in my closet.
At this point, the sensible thing to do would have been to put the skirt back and look for something else in a larger size. I am normally sensible. And yet, I don't know why, I decided I needed to torture myself and see if I could fit into it. I brought it into the dressing room...
...And, lo and behold, I actually fit into it!
No, I didn't miraculously lose 20 pounds somewhere. I later found that many people also noticed sizing on this skirt was huge. All over the reviews on the Anthropologie website, people were repeating "SIZE DOWN" over and over.
The price tag showed the skirt had been marked down twice by Anthropologie to $39.99. Then, I had my 15% off birthday discount. And finally, the button on the skirt had previously came off. The store had it at the counter, but told me I needed to sew it on myself an home. So they gave me another 10% off for that. Which meant my final price for this skirt was around $30.00. Considering the original price of the skirt was $128.00, this turned out to be quite a steal for me.
Here is the skirt on Quinn Fabray, played by Dianna Agron, in Glee.
