Classic Sundae in Homemade Waffle Bowl

I was curious and the Homemade Ice Cream Cones I saw on AllRecipes.com a few days ago. My husband was watching the UFC fights on Saturday night, while I usually bake something and listen to Dave Ramsey on AM talk radio. I decided it would be fun to step out of my comfort zone and try something kind of off the wall...waffle cones.

After whipping up the batter I got started. Unless you have a waffle iron grid pattern on your pan, they won't look like your typical waffle cones. In my case I made bowls. This is what it looks like nearly done on the pan.

I found an upside down wine glass worked the best for me. This is what it will look like when you drape it one the glass.

Keep in mind it is pliable and piping hot right now! I ended up with 2 burned fingertips from this process. I found using a dry, clean paper towel worked best for handling and shaping the waffle bowls. You can either hold the paper towel like shown above...

...or you can hold it like this with you want a higher sides. You only need to hold it for a minute as they harden into shape within a few minutes.

This is what they look like before adding the good stuff.

For the classic sundae above I used homemade vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, fresh whipped cream, sprinkles, and of course a cherry on top!
