Some time in May, DH made me promise not to buy anything too expensive without checking with him. The reason was because he had ordered a present for my upcoming birthday in July, and it was somewhat expensive. Since I pay the bills and track our finances in our family, I already know which store my present is coming from. And yes, it's one of those luxury stores that doesn't hold any sales, meaning everything there is full retail price.
So, I've been a very good girl and have stayed away from the shops these past few weeks. However, in a fit of boredom one day, I went on the White House Black Market website and saw these amazing sequin pumps in black and gold. They were originally $88 plus tax at full retail price, but were now on clearance for just $27.99 plus tax. With my Black Book member discount, free shipping, a 20% off coupon code I found on a coupon site, and 5% cash back for ordering the shoes through my credit card company's online website, the final cost of these shoes came out to just $20.75 plus tax per each pair.
At just around $20.00 per pair, how could they be considered expensive? Even buying both pairs, it was just around $40.
Of course, when the shoes came, DH's first quesiton was, "How much did they cost?"
I sheepishly told him. I waited for him to say, "Okay, you broke the shopping ban, so no birthday present for you."
Instead, he surprised me by saying, "They were just $20 each? Isn't that a little too cheap. How is the quality? Are you sure they're comfortable?"
Huh. I've finally conditioned my husband to accept that it's normal to spend hundreds of dollars on shoes, so much so that he now questions the quality of any shoes that he considers not expensive enough.
I tried on the shoes and walked around the house. According to the reviews I read on the WHBM website, I ordered half a size larger. They slid on my feet perfectly and were surprisingly comfortable. The shoes made a clackity-clack sound when I walked across the tiles. I did a little tap dance in them. Lightweight, but sturdy.
Being neutral in color, both pairs worked well with many things in my closet. If I had to choose, my favorite of the two pairs is the gold pair. The gold color of the sequins isn't a flashy brassy kind of gold. It's actually a sort of muted nude gold. I was wearing a light beige slip when I tried on these pumps, and the gold pair complimented the slip so much that I was sorry the slip wasn't something I could wear outside the house.
